Got this tip sheet this morning . . . thought I would share it with you. If you are an advanced user of the web for your business, this is nothing new. But if you are starting out, these tips could really help you pick out the very best domain name.
If you REALLY want an excellent resource for understanding how to incorporate the internet into your small business marketing, I would strongly suggest this CD series by John Jantsch, creator and founder of Duct Tape Marketing. It only costs $129 (you can get about $30 off when you choose the digital download version). Great stuff! I’ve listened to it several times and get new ideas each time.
As well as this powerful CD series, “HARNESS THE INTERNET” you can go to our company’s website for more marketing coaching solutions as well as some other incredible resources for your small business.

Deb,
Welcome to MarketingTwins! Love those first-time-commenters!! I’m sure you’ll hear more from the other twin soon – he’s probably in his therapy session saying, “What have I gotten myself into?!!!” We love having him on board full-time at 1429 and of course blogging over here at MarketingTwins.
I’m always fascinated at this topic. Why people use their names with funny spelling in their websites. It’s like me picking out a new home like I’m doing right now. I don’t want to live on a street name that no one can pronounce or that I have to spell out EACH time I give it out to someone. Or worse, when I have trouble spelling it myself. For instance, we looked at a house on Giordiano street one day last week. To be honest, it could have been decked out like the mansions in heaven will be but I didn’t want to live there because I couldn’t spell or had a hard time even saying it! I like Niles Court or Vintage Drive…easy to spell and say.
A good biz example is http://www.BootheLaserCenter.com. If you live in the DFW area, you can’t avoid these TV and radio ads. But they always say, “That’s Boothe with an “e”. Catchy but why not call it http://www.TheFamousEyeDoctor.com or something like that.
Here are some other domains that I like:
http://www.270towin.com: Great if you are into politics (present as well as past)
http://www.priceless.com: MasterCard uses this…bet you can guess why!
http://www.moviemistakes.com: This site is addicting and so fun to read. It’s fun to go back to the movies and see what they are talking about.
Sorry for the long response but like I said, I’m fascinated with this topic!
** I WILL MAKE A NEW POST ABOUT THIS LATER THIS WEEK OR NEXT, but I wanted to draw your attention to the latest press release found in the right sidebar under “IN THE NEWS” – I’m excited about this workshop to a growing and strong business community in KELLER! It’s FREE, so I hope to see many people in the KELLER area come and learn some practical marketing for their small business!
Donny,
Thanks for the post – I like those sites. My good friend and fellow marketing coach (Matthew Scott) talks about domain names as “the cheapest and best form of real estate you can buy.” That’s because for less than $10/year you can purchase a domain name that will host your company’s marketing efforts. It’s like buying your spot on a HUGE billboard in every downtown in America, but for less than $1/month (and it really is EVERYWHERE, not some real estate that is bound by geography).
Check out Matthew’s site:

I love the MEMORABLE name of this seminar (it’s also his book and his coaching program for executive men in transition)
I’ve always got a kick out of Matthew’s domain name!! Love it!!
